Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media platform X to announce that Dr. MS Swaminathan, celebrated for his instrumental role in the Green Revolution, will be honored with the esteemed Bharat Ratna. Modi hailed Swaminathan’s visionary leadership and significant contributions to Indian agriculture and farmers’ welfare.
In his post, PM Modi expressed immense joy at the Government of India’s decision to recognize Dr. MS Swaminathan’s monumental contributions. He lauded Swaminathan’s pivotal role in steering India towards self-reliance in agriculture during challenging times and commended his efforts in modernizing the sector. Modi also acknowledged Swaminathan’s role as an innovator and mentor, fostering learning and research among numerous students.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Dr. MS Swaminathan’s visionary leadership not only revolutionized Indian agriculture but also secured the nation’s food security and prosperity. Modi fondly recalled his close association with Swaminathan, highlighting the value he placed on the latter’s insights and inputs.
The announcement of the Bharat Ratna for Dr. MS Swaminathan reflects the nation’s gratitude and recognition of his outstanding contributions to India’s agricultural sector and the welfare of farmers, echoing the sentiment of millions across the country.
