DRDO Successfully Tests Pralay Missile Twice

India’s defence preparedness gets a significant boost as DRDO successfully completes two flight-tests of the indigenously-developed Pralay missile, validating its full operational range with precision targeting and advanced guidance systems.

🌟 Highlights:

  • Two back-to-back successful tests on July 28 and 29, 2025
  • Tests conducted from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha
  • Aimed at validating minimum and maximum range capabilities
  • Pralay followed intended trajectory with pinpoint accuracy
  • Developed by Research Centre Imarat with multiple DRDO labs and industry partners
  • Witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, Indian Air Force and Army officials
  • Compliments from Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh and DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat
  • Paves way for induction into Armed Forces

The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved another milestone in India’s missile capability by successfully conducting two consecutive flight-tests of the Pralay missile on July 28 and 29, 2025. The tests were carried out as part of User Evaluation Trials to validate both the maximum and minimum range capabilities of the advanced missile system.

The trials took place at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha, where the missile systems demonstrated pinpoint accuracy, precisely following the pre-set trajectory and meeting all test objectives. According to DRDO, all subsystems functioned flawlessly and were validated by a comprehensive sensor network deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), including tracking equipment mounted on ships stationed near the designated impact points.

Pralay is an indigenously developed, solid-propellant quasi-ballistic missile equipped with advanced navigation and guidance systems, enabling it to strike targets with high accuracy. It can carry various types of warheads, making it effective against a wide range of battlefield threats.

The development of the missile is spearheaded by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), in close collaboration with several DRDO laboratories such as the Defence Research & Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, and Armament Research & Development Establishment. Key industry partners include Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, along with numerous MSMEs and other industry collaborators.

Senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, and the defence industry witnessed the tests.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industry partners for the successful Pralay missile trials. He stated that the missile, embedded with advanced technologies, will significantly enhance the technological capabilities of India’s Armed Forces.

DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat also praised the achievement, noting that this successful Phase-1 trial marks a major step toward induction of Pralay into the Indian Armed Forces in the near future.

The successful testing of Pralay reinforces India’s self-reliant defence ecosystem and demonstrates DRDO’s ability to deliver cutting-edge, operationally viable strategic systems. With the path now clear for induction, the Pralay missile adds significant value to India’s deterrence and battlefield capabilities.
