In a bid to combat misinformation ahead of elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) took to Twitter to debunk a false claim circulating on WhatsApp. The misleading message suggests that government employees are ineligible to cast their votes via postal ballot, stirring confusion and concern among voters.
The reality, as clarified by the Election Commission, is quite different. The tweet asserts that the message is “misleading & fake,” emphasizing that eligible officials on election duty retain the right to vote through postal ballot. This mechanism ensures that individuals serving in essential roles during elections can exercise their democratic rights conveniently and securely.
Furthermore, the Election Commission underscores that eligible government employees can avail themselves of the postal ballot facility at designated Voter Facilitation Centers. These centers are established to streamline the voting process for individuals unable to cast their votes in person due to official duties or other constraints.
The swift response from the Election Commission underscores its commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that voters have accurate information to make informed decisions.
