Tamil Nadu: In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken action in the Court Embezzlement Case involving C Thinagaraja and Others. The Enforcement Directorate has provisionally attached proceeds of crime amounting to Rs. 1.15 Crore, encompassing movable and immovable properties owned by C Thinagaraja and his family.

The accused, C Thinagaraja, allegedly played a key role in the embezzlement of ‘Judicial Court Funds’ totaling Rs. 1.15 Crore, employing fraudulent and corrupt practices during his tenure as a Translator/Central Nazir at III, Additional District Court, Pattukottai. The investigation was initiated based on an FIR registered by the District Crime Branch (DCB), Pattukkottai, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code 1860, related to the misappropriation of ‘Judicial Court Funds.’

ED’s probe uncovered that C Thinagaraja, while handling payment works related to the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal, manipulated payment instructions, forged signatures, and misappropriated funds without the authorization of the Hon’ble Judge, amounting to Rs. 1.15 Crore.

“Further scrutiny into the utilization of the proceeds of crime revealed that C Thinagaraja invested in properties, including a plot with a ground floor in Pattukottai, Thanjavur, a car, and parked a significant amount in his residence. The ED, upon establishing the money trail, provisionally attached the tainted assets, including movable and immovable properties, valued at Rs. 1.15 Crore, belonging to C Thinagaraja and his family members”.

This enforcement action underscores the ED’s commitment to investigating financial crimes and preventing the further misuse of embezzled funds. The provisional attachment is a crucial step in safeguarding the interests of justice and preserving the assets acquired through illicit means.
