Eid al-Fitr 2024: As Eid al-Fitr approaches in 2024, the exact date of its observance in India remains uncertain. Traditionally, Eid al-Fitr is determined by the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, marking the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting for Muslims worldwide.
This year, however, experts speculate that the moon sighting might be influenced by the recent total solar eclipse. Reports suggest that the visibility of the crescent moon might be affected shortly after the eclipse, potentially delaying the moon-sighting process until April 9, 2024.
The festival of Eid al-Fitr is typically celebrated a day after the sighting of the crescent moon, which means it could fall on April 10 or 11, depending on the moon sighting results.
In light of these developments, Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam and home to its holiest sites, has announced that Eid al-Fitr will begin on Wednesday. The Supreme Court in Saudi Arabia declared tomorrow as the last day of Ramadan and Wednesday as the first day of Eid Al-Fitr.
As Muslims eagerly await the confirmation of the Eid al-Fitr date, the impact of the total solar eclipse on the moon sighting adds an intriguing dimension to the anticipation of this important religious festival.
