Udhampur: In a significant development for Udhampur’s infrastructure, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh laid the foundation stone for the essential road project connecting Ramnagar to Ramwail. The project, with an allocation of 2.96 crore rupees, had faced prolonged legal challenges, which Dr. Singh personally resolved, facilitating the initiation of the road construction.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the pivotal role of road connectivity in the remote regions of Udhampur, achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. He highlighted the historical context of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), tracing its inception to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Dr. Singh noted that in the nine-and-a-half years of Prime Minister Modi’s tenure, the total length of PMGSY roads built in the country has doubled to more than 8 lakh kilometers.
Udhampur, Dr. Jitendra Singh pointed out, has consistently been recognized among the top three PMGSY road projects in all districts nationwide. He expressed regret that the region had been neglected by previous governments but affirmed that Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to equitable development had transformed the landscape.
Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the unprecedented attention Udhampur received under the Modi government. He credited the Prime Minister for the region’s enhanced facilities, upgrading infrastructure beyond expectations.
The minister cited the unique achievements of his constituency, including the introduction of two Vande Bharat Express trains, three centrally-funded medical colleges, and significant projects such as the Devika River Rejuvenation initiative, Katra-Delhi Express road corridor, North India’s first Industrial Biotech Park, and the national-level Shahpur Kandi Irrigation project.
The foundation stone laying ceremony marked not just the commencement of a road project but symbolized the government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive development, transforming Udhampur into a model for equitable progress and infrastructure enhancement.
