  • Safety upgrades on Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway to benefit Karnataka-Kerala traffic.

Background/Context:
Karnataka’s growing economy and rising inter-regional movement have placed significant strain on its road infrastructure. To address this, Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation for major highway projects in Sagara Town, Shivamogga. The event saw the presence of Union Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi, former CM B.S. Yediyurappa, and other key leaders, highlighting the projects’ strategic importance.

Impact / What’s Next:
These projects are expected to drastically reduce travel time, improve road safety, and fuel regional tourism and trade. Improved access to pilgrimage sites like Sigandur and Kollur will boost spiritual tourism. The infrastructure enhancements will ensure year-round connectivity—especially critical during monsoons—and foster economic ties between Karnataka and neighbouring states. Continued monitoring and timely execution will be vital for maximizing these benefits.
