Govt Committed to Holistic Development of Border Villages Under VVP.

The Government of India is committed to the holistic development of border villages under the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP). This was stated by Information and Broadcasting & Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Thakur while addressing a gathering of more than 200 Sarpanches from border villages at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

Thakur said that the government is working to ensure that the benefits of all government programs reach the remotest corner of border villages. He said that roads, telecommunication, and tourism are the buoy of bound villages, and the government is bent to enhance this casework beneath the VVP.

The Minister also said that the government is working to empower women and youth in border villages. He said that the government is providing them with opportunities for education, employment, and entrepreneurship.

Thakur said that the VVP is a major initiative of the government to improve the lives of people living in border villages. He said that the government is committed to making these villages vibrant and prosperous.

The VVP was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2023. It aims to develop 2,967 villages in 46 blocks abutting the northern border in 19 districts of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, UT of Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. The scheme has a budget of Rs.4,800 crore.

  • Connectivity: The government will build all-weather roads and improve mobile and internet connectivity in border villages.

  • Tourism: The government will develop tourism in border villages to boost the local economy.
