Grand Inauguration of 12th Divya Kala Mela-2023 Today in Surat, Gujarat

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), through the National Divyangjan Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC), is set to organize the ‘Divya Kala Mela’ in Surat, Gujarat, from December 29, 2023, to January 7, 2024. This event, part of a series spanning various cities, is a significant step toward economic empowerment for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) or Divyangjan.

The ‘Divya Kala Mela’ serves as a larger platform for Divyang entrepreneurs and artisans to showcase their skills and products. With a focus on promoting ‘vocal for local,’ the event in Surat is the 12th in the series, following successful showcases in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Guwahati, Indore, Jaipur, Varanasi, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Patna during 2022 and 2023.

“Approximately 100 Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from around 20 states and Union Territories will participate, presenting a diverse range of products. The categories include Home Décor and lifestyle, Clothing, Stationery and Eco-friendly products, Packaged Food and Organic Products, Toys and gifts, and Personal Accessories like Jewellery and Clutch Bags”.

The ‘Divya Kala Mela’ in Surat aims to provide a unique shopping experience where visitors can witness and purchase products crafted by Divyang craftsmen, showcasing their extraordinary determination and skills. The event will be open to the public from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, allowing ample time for exploration and engagement.

“Beyond the shopping experience, the 10-day event promises cultural richness, featuring performances by Divyang artists and well-known professionals. Visitors can also indulge in diverse regional cuisines from various parts of the country, adding a culinary delight to the overall experience”.

Scheduled to be inaugurated on December 29, 2023, at 4:00 PM by the Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, the event will witness the presence of various dignitaries. The Department envisions extending the concept nationwide, with plans to organize ‘Divya Kala Mela’ in other cities during the 2023-2024 period.

‘Divya Kala Mela’ is not just an exhibition; it’s a celebration of diversity, talent, and resilience, contributing to the larger narrative of inclusivity and empowerment for Persons with Disabilities. The event in Surat exemplifies the government’s commitment to providing a platform for Divyang entrepreneurs, fostering economic independence and societal integration.
