In the lead-up to the crucial election for the 182-seat Gujarat Assembly, the ruling BJP, opposition Congress, and new entrant AAP are all aggressively campaigning in an attempt to gain more support. The Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) has made several poll promises, while the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to lure voters.
The EC declared the date for Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections earlier this month. The state with a hill will have a single-phase election on November 12. Votes polled in both elections will be counted on December 8.
The Gujarat Election Commission is likely to announce the election schedule for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections soon. The elections are expected to be held in December 2022.
The ruling BJP is aiming to retain power in Gujarat for the fourth consecutive term. The party is banking on the development work done by the state government in the last few years.
The Opposition Congress, on the other hand, is hoping to make a comeback in the state after being out of power for over two decades. The party is focusing on issues like unemployment and farmer distress.
Gujarat Election 2017
In 2017, the Congress and the BJP had a close fight in Gujarat. The Congress secured 77 seats while the BJP won 99 of the 182 seats. The election this year is set to be a three-way battle between the BJP, the Congress, and the AAP. Looking to secure its sixth straight term, the BJP changed its entire cabinet a few months ago to beat anti-incumbency.
