The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast indicating the possibility of isolated hailstorms over Gangetic West Bengal on March 19, 2024. Residents and authorities in the region are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions in anticipation of adverse weather conditions.

“Hailstorms are weather phenomena characterized by the occurrence of hail, which are pellets of frozen raindrops that form within thunderstorm clouds. These can range in size from small pellets to large stones and have the potential to cause damage to crops, property, and infrastructure”.

The IMD’s warning serves as an alert to residents and farmers in Gangetic West Bengal to safeguard their belongings and agricultural produce against potential hailstorm-related damages. Precautionary measures may include securing loose objects, protecting crops with suitable coverings, and seeking shelter indoors during periods of inclement weather.

Hailstorms are often associated with thunderstorms and atmospheric instability, making their occurrence unpredictable and localized. Therefore, individuals and communities in the affected areas need to stay informed about weather updates and heed any advisories or alerts issued by local authorities.
