The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant alert regarding heatwave conditions expected to prevail across various regions on April 24, 2024. According to the IMD forecast, many places in Gangetic West Bengal, as well as a few pockets in interior Karnataka and sub-Himalayan West Bengal, are likely to experience severe heatwave conditions.
Furthermore, heatwave conditions are expected in Bihar, Jharkhand, Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Coastal Odisha, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on the same day.
This warning underscores the importance of taking necessary precautions to mitigate the adverse effects of extreme heat. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay indoors during peak sunlight hours, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Authorities are urged to take proactive measures to ensure the well-being of vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and outdoor workers.
The IMD’s alert serves as a reminder of the importance of staying informed and prepared for extreme weather events, helping communities better cope with and adapt to changing climatic conditions. Vigilance and proactive measures are essential in safeguarding public health and minimizing the impact of heatwave conditions on daily life and activities.
