India-Mongolia’s NOMADIC ELEPHANT 2025 Wraps Up

The 17th edition of the India-Mongolia Joint Military Exercise NOMADIC ELEPHANT successfully concluded today in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, marking another significant chapter in the growing defence cooperation between the two nations. The closing ceremony witnessed the presence of India’s Defence Secretary, Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, and Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh, Director General Operational Logistics and Strategic Movement, who lauded the efforts of both military contingents.

This two-week-long exercise involved a 45-member Indian Army contingent, primarily drawn from the ARUNACHAL SCOUTS battalion—an elite unit known for its operational capabilities in high-altitude terrains. The joint training was designed to enhance operational synergy between the Indian Army and the Mongolian Armed Forces, with a special focus on semi-conventional scenarios in semi-urban and mountainous terrains under the framework of United Nations peacekeeping mandates.

At the ceremony, Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh praised the Indian troops for their outstanding professionalism and exemplary discipline. He emphasized that Exercise NOMADIC ELEPHANT is a reflection of the enduring friendship, mutual respect, and shared historical and cultural values between India and Mongolia. He reiterated that such collaborative efforts not only improve combat readiness but also affirm India’s commitment to global peacekeeping and regional stability.

“This exercise is not just about military drills—it is a symbol of solidarity, trust, and shared strategic objectives. India remains steadfast in supporting meaningful international partnerships that aim to promote peace and security,” he noted.

The exercise featured a range of tactical drills including room intervention, hostage rescue, counter-insurgency operations, and setting up of joint command posts—each reinforcing interoperability and cohesion between the two forces.

As part of his diplomatic engagement, the Defence Secretary is also scheduled to participate in the opening ceremony of Exercise KHAAN QUEST 2025, a multinational military exercise that will take place from June 14 to 28, also in Ulaanbaatar. The Indian Army will be among the key participating nations, highlighting its increasing role in international military collaborations.

The back-to-back conduct of NOMADIC ELEPHANT and KHAAN QUEST underlines India’s proactive defence diplomacy and its growing strategic ties with Mongolia. These initiatives reinforce India’s broader Indo-Pacific vision and its commitment to being a credible and responsible partner in the global security architecture.

In conclusion, Exercise NOMADIC ELEPHANT has not only enhanced tactical cooperation but has also served as a platform to foster deeper diplomatic and military ties—signifying India’s strategic outreach and Mongolia’s pivotal role as a trusted partner in the region.
