Indian Economic Service Probationers Meet President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan

A delegation of probationers from the Indian Economic Service (IES), comprising members from the 2022 and 2023 batches, had a special audience with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

In her address to the officers, President Murmu underscored the significance of economic growth in driving national development. She highlighted the importance of macro and microeconomic indicators in gauging progress and stressed the pivotal role of economists in crafting effective government policies and schemes. As India strides towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, President Murmu urged the officers to seize the multitude of forthcoming opportunities to augment their skills and contribute significantly to the nation’s advancement.

The President reiterated the expectations from Economic Service Officers to provide adept advice for economic analysis, program design, resource distribution, and scheme evaluation. She emphasized that policies hinged on their recommendations, making their role indispensable in the governance framework.

President Murmu commended the transformative impact of data analysis and evidence-based development programs in fostering economic upliftment. She encouraged the young IES officers to enhance their efficacy through innovation and creativity, envisioning them as catalysts for progress in an evolving landscape.

Highlighting the notable representation of women officers, accounting for over 60 percent of the 2022 and 2023 batches, the President lauded the role of increased female participation in advancing inclusive development goals. She urged women officers to champion the holistic empowerment of women.

President Murmu urged the officers to prioritize the interests of marginalized communities in their policy recommendations and decision-making processes, emphasizing the imperative of serving the underprivileged and backward sections of society.

The meeting served as a platform for insightful exchanges and guidance, as the President imparted valuable wisdom to the budding economists, nurturing their sense of duty towards nation-building and inclusive growth.
