Probationers from the Indian Postal Service (2021 and 2022 Batch) had the honor of meeting the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 11, 2023.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu lauded the Department of Posts for its remarkable 160-year journey as a steadfast service to the nation. With an extensive network comprising nearly 1,60,000 Post Offices, the Indian postal network holds the distinction of being the world’s largest. President Murmu expressed that this expansive network serves as a unifying thread that binds the diverse cultures and traditions of India.
The President acknowledged the pivotal role of the Department of Posts in driving financial inclusion. She applauded the department’s strategic initiatives aimed at narrowing the financial gap and empowering marginalized communities. Notably, she highlighted its role in disbursing government subsidies, welfare payments, and pensions. The seamless distribution of funds through post offices has not only reduced dependency on intermediaries but also minimized instances of leakages.
President Murmu emphasized that the role of Indian Postal Service officers is deeply rooted in serving the people of the nation, necessitating a customer-centric approach. As the era is characterized by rapid communication through instant messaging and social media, the Department of Posts must evolve to remain relevant. The President expressed satisfaction that the department is actively embracing modernization to align with the digital landscape. She welcomed the innovative ideas of young probationers, recognizing their invaluable contribution to steering this transformative journey.
The meeting between President Droupadi Murmu and the probationers of the Indian Postal Service underscores the department’s historical legacy and contemporary relevance.
