“Indian Wrestling Team Gets Green Light to Compete in 2nd Ranking Series ‘Ibrahim-Moustafa’ Tournament in Egypt”

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has given the green light for a contingent of 43 members, including 27 wrestlers, to participate in the upcoming 2nd Ranking Series ‘Ibrahim-Moustafa’ tournament. The event is scheduled to take place in Alexandria, Egypt, from 23rd to 26th February and will be critical for gaining ranking points to secure better seeding at the Senior Asian Championships in the year 2023 and the Senior World Championships of 2023.

The Indian team for the tournament will consist of 9 Freestyle Wrestlers, 8 Women Wrestlers, and 10 Greco-Roman Wrestlers, along with 16 coaches and support staff. The 27 wrestlers in the team will also include 3 Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS) Wrestlers, namely Ashu 67 kg GR, Bhateri 65 Kg WW, and Sujeet 65 Kg FS.

The participation of the Indian team in the tournament has been welcomed by Olympic medalist and chairperson of the Oversight committee, MC Mary Kom, who said, “We want to ensure that the sport and the athletes do not suffer, and more and more wrestlers get international exposure, so they can have the great opportunity to compete against the best in the world.”

The 2nd Ranking Series has already attracted registrations from as many as 9 current and former World Championship Gold medalists, making it a highly competitive event for wrestlers from around the world.

The tournament is part of a series of events that the Wrestling Federation of India has lined up for the Indian wrestlers to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The federation has been working hard to provide international exposure to Indian wrestlers and give them the opportunity to compete against the best in the world.

The participation of the Indian team in the 2nd Ranking Series ‘Ibrahim-Moustafa’ tournament is a crucial step in this direction.
