The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) marked another historic achievement on Monday night with the successful launch of the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission. The mission was executed using the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C60), which carried two satellites, SDX01 (Chaser) and SDX02 (Target), along with 24 other payloads.
The rocket lifted off at 10 p.m. from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, delivering its payloads into a 475-km circular orbit within 15 minutes of launch. Each of the two primary satellites weighs approximately 220 kg and will play a crucial role in demonstrating docking technology in space—a feat mastered by only three other nations so far.
India’s Global Leadership in Space
The SpaDeX mission underscores India’s ambitions to become a leader in space exploration. By advancing space docking technology, ISRO is paving the way for future space station assembly, refueling missions, and on-orbit repairs, reinforcing India’s growing influence in the global space industry.
Amit Shah Praises ISRO’s Achievement
Union Home Minister Amit Shah lauded ISRO’s scientists, tweeting: “Congratulations to Team ISRO on the successful SpaDeX Mission launch! This remarkable achievement paves the way for Bharat in space docking technology, solidifying its position as a global space leader. Wishing our brilliant scientists continued success in their journey ahead!”
With this achievement, India is poised to join the ranks of elite spacefaring nations, solidifying its reputation as a technological powerhouse.
