The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, has achieved a historic milestone in the fiscal year 2023-24 by recording its highest-ever throughput of 6.43 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). This achievement surpasses the previous year’s mark of 6.05 million TEUs, showcasing the port’s continued growth trajectory. A notable increase of 6.27% in total throughput was observed compared to the corresponding period last year.

During the period from April 2023 to March 2024, JNPA handled a total traffic of 85.82 million tonnes, marking a 2.33% increase from the previous financial year’s 83.86 million tonnes. This included 78.13 million tonnes of container traffic and 7.70 million tonnes of Bulk Cargo, compared to 76.19 million tonnes of container traffic and 7.67 million tonnes of bulk traffic in the corresponding period of the previous year.

A breakdown of the container traffic reveals that BMCT handled 2.03 million TEUs, APMT handled 1.59 million TEUs, NSICT handled 1.13 million TEUs, NSIGT handled 1.11 million TEUs, NSFT handled 0.56 million TEUs, and NSDT handled 7,978 TEUs.

Mr. Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman of JNPA, expressed immense pride in this significant milestone, highlighting the dedication of the team in establishing the port as a premier gateway for EXIM (Export-Import) trade. He emphasized the unwavering commitment to delivering top-notch services, including centralized parking plaza, single-window clearance, and various other initiatives aimed at facilitating ease of doing business. He extended gratitude to all partners and stakeholders for their continued trust and support, reaffirming JNPA’s steadfast mission to contribute to the nation’s economic advancement.

Established on May 26, 1989, JNPA has evolved from a bulk cargo terminal to become the premier container port in India. Operating five container terminals — NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT, and APMT, the port also hosts a Shallow Water Berth for general cargo and a Liquid Cargo Terminal managed by the BPCL-IOCL consortium, along with a newly constructed coastal berth. Spanning 277 hectares of land, JNPA operates a meticulously designed multi-product SEZ (Special Economic Zone) with state-of-the-art infrastructure, aiming to boost export-oriented industries in India.
