In a major stride towards shaping the future of connectivity, Reliance Jio has announced a strategic partnership with OnePlus to launch a 5G Innovation Lab. The collaboration signifies a concerted effort to explore new technologies in the 5G space, fostering a hub for testing innovative features and accelerating service implementation.
A spokesperson from OnePlus expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that it represents a bold leap into the future of connectivity, where innovation knows no bounds. The collaboration aims to redefine the 5G landscape in India, providing users with a glimpse into the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
The 5G Innovation Lab is poised to unfold magical experiences for users, with a focus on delivering enhanced gaming, streaming, and an overall improved 5G usage experience. The partnership comes on the heels of Jio’s recent collaboration with TM Forum to establish an Innovation Hub in Mumbai, dedicated to advancing GenAI, large language models, and open digital architecture.
Reliance Jio Infocomm chairman Akash Ambani hinted at a ‘Bharat GPT’ program in collaboration with IIT-Bombay. This multi-pronged approach positions Jio as a key player in 5G deployment, claiming 85% coverage in the country. Beyond 5G, Jio has also dominated the feature phone market, with its JioBharat Phone commanding a substantial market share.
With the integration of OnePlus in the 5G journey, Jio aims to better test hardware with software, potentially leveraging synergies to introduce allied experiences. As the 5G rollout gains momentum, this partnership underscores Jio’s commitment to innovation, reflected in its robust financial performance, with a significant year-on-year increase in net profit and revenue in Q3 FY24. The collaboration anticipates transformative shifts in India’s digital landscape, setting the stage for a new era of connectivity.
