Companies House, the UK government’s registrar of companies, plays a crucial role in regulating and overseeing the corporate sector. It is responsible for incorporating and dissolving limited companies, as well as registering the information that companies are legally required to supply, such as details about directors, shareholders, and accounts. This information is then made available to the public to ensure transparency and accountability.
Recently, Companies House has undergone a significant transformation in response to the government’s priorities in national security, anti-corruption, tackling fraud, and boosting enterprise. As part of this transformation, John Clarke has been appointed as the new Non-Executive Chair of Companies House.
Clarke, who brings extensive experience in leadership and business transformation, has expressed his excitement about taking on this role during a period of significant change for Companies House. He believes that the role of Companies House must evolve to better reflect its responsibility to achieve the government’s priorities, and is committed to ensuring that Companies House plays a more noticeable role in tackling economic crime.
Business Minister Kevin Hollinrake has praised Clarke’s appointment, noting that his experience will support Companies House in delivering important public services and fulfilling its responsibilities in regulating the corporate sector. Hollinrake also expressed gratitude for the hard work of Lesley Cowley, who served as chair before Clarke.
As Companies House continues its transformation, it is expected that the organization will continue to play a vital role in promoting transparency and accountability in the corporate sector, and in contributing to the government’s priorities in national security, anti-corruption, tackling fraud, and boosting enterprise.
