The year 2022 is coming to a close and the year 2023 is just around the corner. However, the Bollywood film industry didn’t have a very successful year in 2022. A bunch of flop and disastrous films were released at the box office, more than hits and blockbusters. However, a few handfuls of films came out to become the biggest hits of the year 2022, so without further ado, let’s take a look at the top 5 hits and blockbuster Bollywood movies of 2022.
Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022):
2022 has been great for Alia Bhatt. She delivered some of her career-best performances this year, married actor Ranbir Kapoor, and embraced motherhood with the birth of their daughter Raha. Alia gives a stellar performance as a madam-cum-mafia leader in Mumbai’s red light district in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi‘. Alia was hilarious as the witty, bubbly Gangubai, who never let her circumstances get to her or her spirit down. In ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, actor Vijay Verma played the character of Kinnar. In the film, he became a villain.
Drishyam 2 (2022):
Ajay Devgan is very popular with his films at the box office and takes full care that the producers do not suffer any loss because of him. Actors do not back down from doing sequel films because they also get benefits from it. This is a living example of Drishyam 2. One of the highest-grossing Bollywood movies of 2022 is Ajay Devgan’s Drishyam 2. The film, starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and Akshaye Khanna, is a sequel to the prequel released in 2015 with the same cast. The third installment of the film is also expected to be made soon.
RRR (2022):
Based in pre-independence India, RRR was a period film. The story was a fictional tale inspired by the lives of two real-life freedom fighters Alluri Sitarama Raju and Kommaram Bheem. Alia Bhatt played Sita, Shriya Saran played Sarojini, and Olivia Morris played the sympathetic British woman Jenny in the film. Alia’s only purpose in the film is to ensure the two leading men meet before the climax.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022):
A paraplegic marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) becomes an unlikely champion for the Na’vi, the 10-foot-tall and blue-skinned, sapient humanoids, in their fight for survival in “Avatar: The Way of Water”. “Titanic” was not the only movie of Cameron’s that was a colossal success, it also featured Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, and Sigourney Weaver, and raised over USD 2 billion at the box office. It is currently the highest-grossing title of all time in North America.
Ponniyin Selvan I (2022):
Ponniyin Selvan: I is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language epic historical action drama film directed by Mani Ratnam, who co-wrote it with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. It is the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel, Ponniyin Selvan, produced by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
The crown prince Aditha Karikalan sends Vandiyathevan on a journey across the Chola land to deliver a message. As vassals and petty chieftains plot against the throne, Kundavai attempts to establish political peace. Mani Ratnam helmed the film starring Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, and Aishwarya Rai.
