Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh Becomes Army Vice Chief

Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh assumed the role of Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 31 July 2025, bringing 38 years of distinguished service, extensive operational expertise, and strategic leadership across major military operations and commands.

Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh assumed the prestigious role of Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 31 July 2025, marking a significant moment in a distinguished military career spanning nearly four decades. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as the Director General Operational Logistics & Strategic Movement at Army Headquarters.

Commissioned into the 4th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) in December 1987, Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh has demonstrated outstanding leadership and operational acumen throughout his service. An alumnus of La Martiniere College, Lucknow University, and the Indian Military Academy, he has contributed to various critical operations including OP PAWAN, OP MEGHDOOT, OP ORCHID, and multiple tenures in OP RAKSHAK.

His field commands include leading a Special Forces Unit in the Kashmir Valley and along the Line of Control (LoC), an Infantry Brigade, and a Mountain Division during OP SNOW LEOPARD on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). He also commanded a Corps in Himachal Pradesh, responsible for key sectors including Jammu, Samba, and Pathankot, showcasing his deep understanding of India’s northern and western operational theatres.

Lt Gen Singh has also pursued academic excellence, attending the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, the College of Defence Management (CDM), Secunderabad, and the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA). He holds a Master in Management Studies from Osmania University and a Master of Philosophy from Punjab University.

In recognition of his exemplary service and dedication to the nation, he has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and a Bar to the Sena Medal.
