Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, currently serving as the Northern Army commander, is set to assume the position of the army’s vice chief on February 15, succeeding Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar. This transition marks a significant moment in Lt. Gen. Dwivedi’s distinguished military journey, positioning him for potential future leadership roles within the Indian Army.
Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi’s exemplary credentials, including his education from Sainik School Rewa, the National Defence Academy, and the Indian Military Academy, underscore his strong foundation and commitment to military service. With previous appointments including deputy chief at the Army Headquarters, General Officer Commanding of the Yol-based HQ 9 Corps, and director general of infantry, Lt. Gen. Dwivedi brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.
Notably, Lt. Gen.Upendra Dwivedi’s tenure as the commander of the operationally critical Northern Command since February 2022 reflects his strategic leadership and dedication to national security. As he assumes the responsibilities of Vice Chief of the Indian Army, Lt. Gen. Dwivedi’s leadership will play a pivotal role in shaping the military’s direction and priorities.
Moreover, Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi’s forthcoming appointment positions him as a frontrunner for the esteemed post of army chief, given his seniority within the ranks of the Indian Army. With General Manoj Pande’s retirement scheduled for May 31, 2024, Lt. Gen.
