New York: As McDonald’s looks to reduce costs and invest in growth, CEO Chris Kempczinski has announced that layoffs will occur by April. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Kempczinski stated that “some jobs that are existing today are either going to get moved or those jobs may go away.” The fast food chain plans to communicate its decision on layoffs to employees by April 3.

Almost 200,000 people work at company-owned McDonald’s restaurants, according to the most recent report. Kempczinski said in a memo to employees, as reported by CNN, that “they will evaluate roles and staffing levels in parts of the organization and there will be difficult discussions and decisions ahead.”

Sales at McDonald’s surged during the pandemic as people ordered more takeout.

However, the CEO said that while there is much for us to be proud of, you have also told us that there is much more we can do, “Even though we are performing well, we can do better”. He said that he expects to save money as part of the staffing changes.

“We will evaluate roles and staffing levels in certain parts of the organization and there will be difficult discussions and decisions ahead,” said Kempczynski. Some initiatives will be given less importance or stopped completely. It will help us grow faster as an organization while reducing our global costs and freeing up resources to invest in our growth.
