In a major step toward strengthening healthcare and industry in Assam, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy today virtually dedicated a life-saving advanced ambulance to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Bokajan. Donated under a CSR initiative by Richardson & Cruddas Ltd. with support from CCI Bokajan, the ambulance will greatly enhance emergency medical care in the region.

The initiative enables safe transfer of critical patients to advanced hospitals in Diphu, Jorhat, and Dimapur, addressing a long-standing gap in emergency healthcare services in the region. The ambulance was formally requested by Dr. Numal Momin, local MLA and Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.

Minister Kumaraswamy thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vision of inclusive Northeast development, citing the long-standing policy of Union Ministers visiting the region every 15 days. “This initiative has brought tremendous connectivity and prosperity to the Northeast,” he said.

During the same event, Shri Kumaraswamy reviewed the progress at the CCI Bokajan Cement Plant, a key public sector unit under the Ministry of Heavy Industries. Commissioned in 1976, the plant had faced losses for years but has now returned to profitability in the last three years, producing 43-grade OPC and PPC cement. He revealed that expansion plans are underway, aiming to increase employment fivefold and further fuel industrial activity in the region.

Highlighting the Ministry’s green growth initiatives, the Minister noted the plant’s Hot Air Duct to Raw Mills Project, inaugurated during his earlier visit in September 2024, is saving 11 tonnes of coal per day. He also laid the foundation for a 1 MW Solar Power Project, which is set to improve energy efficiency and reduce the plant’s carbon footprint.

Currently, the CCI Bokajan plant provides employment to over 450 direct and 1,000 indirect workers, and serves as a key economic driver in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) region. Kumaraswamy stressed the potential of leveraging local resources to set up more industries, creating long-term employment and growth opportunities.

Expressing gratitude to Shri Tuliram Ronghang, Dr. Momin, and the people of Bokajan, the Minister lauded the region’s resilience and spirit. “Together, under the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s leadership, we are building a self-reliant Northeast through empowered communities, sustainable development, and stronger industries,” he concluded.
