Celebrating Pakhala Dibasa: Warm Wishes from Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Minister Dharmendra Pradhan extends heartfelt greetings to all Odias and food enthusiasts on the auspicious occasion of Pakhala Dibasa. Pakhala, a traditional Odia dish, holds a special place in the hearts and palates of Odias, known for its simplicity, flavor, and nutritional value.

Pakhala is a delightful concoction of fermented rice mixed with curd, enjoyed with a variety of roasted or fried seasonal vegetables, green chilies, and salad. Beyond its delicious taste, Pakhala is renowned as a great immunity booster, particularly refreshing during the hot summer months.

In a bid to promote this beloved cuisine in the modern era, Pakhala Dibasa was declared on March 20, 2011, through popular initiative, to be celebrated by Odias worldwide. Every year on March 20, Odias across the globe come together to celebrate Pakhala Dibasa, showcasing their love for this traditional dish and encouraging its consumption and promotion.

However, recognizing the challenges faced by Odias living in regions with unsuitable weather conditions for cold Pakhala in March, International Pakhala Dibasa is celebrated on July 13. This allows Odias residing in Europe, North America, and other regions to join in the festivities and indulge in the flavors of Pakhala.

As Pakhala Dibasa approaches, Minister Dharmendra Pradhan encourages everyone to partake in the celebration, savoring the essence of Odisha’s culinary heritage and relishing the simple yet delectable flavors of Pakhala. Let us come together to honor this beloved dish and continue the tradition of celebrating Pakhala Dibasa with joy and enthusiasm.
