On the 2nd of January, “The Ministry of Coal is working towards being in harmony with nature by converting suitable mine areas into eco-parks, sites for water sports, underground mine tourism, golf grounds, adventure, bird watching, etc. Local people could find recreation, revenue, and employment at these sites”.

Mudwani Dam Eco-park and AnanyaVatika Eco-Restoration Park cum Pit Lake, both developed by coal companies in Madhya Pradesh, are unique examples of such initiatives.

Mudwani Dam Eco-park in Singrauli is a beautiful, peaceful place that is spread out over 84,000m2. It was inaugurated during the Vriksharopan Abhiyan in 2021 and is still a hidden gem that not many people know about. It’s close enough to the city that you can still enjoy the hustle and bustle, but far enough away that you can escape the noise and relax in nature.

Mudwani Dam Eco-park, located in the Jayant area, will feature a beautiful waterfront, walking pathways, a children’s sports area, restaurants, and shops for local products. A lake-view seating area has been developed in the park for people to relax and be comfortable. The average yearly footfall for the spectacular Mudwani Dam Eco-park is 25,000. It purifies and refines ambient air, prevents soil erosion, and promotes ecological development.

The “AnanyaVatika” Eco-Restoration Park cum Pit Lake was developed after the reclamation of the abandoned OB dump of Sector “D” of the Rajnagar Opencast Project of the Hasedo Area located in Dola, Madhya Pradesh. There is a pit lake/water body in the area of 50 acres and a garden in the area of 6 acres.

Open Cast Mining Project is one of the best examples of reclamation and sustainable development. The park has various types of fruit-bearing, ornamental, and herbal plants, including mangoes, hibiscuses, ornamental palms, sweet limes, pomegranates, pears, gooseberries, berries, plums, bamboo, and other herbal plants.

The Eco Park has caused ecological restoration of the area with flourishing flora and attracting exotic fauna like the migratory Siberian Cranes, biological reclamation of land, and soil stabilization.
