Modi government decided to make food grains free by December 2023.

On 24th December Yogi said, “The decision of the Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of respected PM Modi to provide free food grains to more than 81 crore beneficiaries by December 2023 under the ‘National Food Security Act is commendable. Hearty thanks Prime Minister for this welfare decision”.

The National Food Security Act 2013 is a law notified by the Government of India, through which the objective of the Government of India is to ensure that food grains are available to the general public in the country.

The Act is now being implemented in all the States/UTs and 80.72 crore persons are being covered against the targeted coverage of 81.34 crore persons.

In Chandigarh, Puducherry, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, the Act is being implemented in cash transfer mode, under which the food subsidy is directly credited to the bank account of the beneficiaries.

After this, they have the option of buying food grains from the open market.
