Mopin Festival: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has lauded the Mopin Festival, emphasizing its importance in showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Galo tribe. Describing it as a significant event, he expressed admiration for the festival’s ability to vividly portray the cultural diversity of Arunachal Pradesh.

“Mopin is a great festival of Arunachal Pradesh. It brilliantly depicts our cultural diversity,” remarked CM Pema Khandu, underlining the festival’s role in preserving and promoting the unique traditions of the Galo community.

Celebrated with fervor by the Galo brethren, Mopin holds deep symbolism, signifying social camaraderie and peace, as articulated by the Chief Minister. He extended his warm wishes to all, invoking the blessings of Anyi Pinku Pinte for a happy and healthy life.

The Mopin Festival, observed by the Galo tribe during the months of “Lumi” and “Luki” (March-April), marks the harvesting season and the new year for the community. Rooted in the animist religion of Donyi-Polo, the festival is a time of joy, gratitude, and spiritual reverence.

During the festivities, Galo people adorn themselves in traditional white attire, partake in feasts featuring local delicacies, and engage in rituals symbolizing unity and purity. The highlight of the celebration is the traditional dance performance called Popir, accompanied by the sacrificial offering of the Mithun, a revered bovine creature.

Since its inception in 1966, the Mopin Festival has served as a platform for preserving and celebrating Galo culture, drawing thousands of participants and spectators to events organized in towns like Along (also known as Aalo). The festival not only fosters cultural pride but also fosters community cohesion and mutual respect.

As Arunachal Pradesh embraces its cultural diversity, the Mopin Festival stands as a testament to the enduring traditions and values cherished by the Galo tribe. CM Pema Khandu’s recognition of its significance underscores the state’s commitment to preserving and honoring its indigenous heritage for generations to come.
