Following independence, he held several key ministerial roles, including Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Education, and Minister of Industrial Development.
His presidency is remembered for being a steady hand during politically turbulent times, especially during the Emergency declared in 1975. Despite the challenges, he upheld the dignity of the highest constitutional office with grace and responsibility.
