The 11th International Yoga Day will be celebrated across the world on 21st June 2025, reflecting the ever-growing global embrace of Yoga as a means to achieve holistic well-being. With the theme for this year titled “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, the day is set to be marked by massive nationwide and international participation, showcasing India’s ancient wisdom and its relevance in the modern era.
Preparations for Yoga Day have reached a fever pitch in India, with both national and state-level initiatives gaining momentum in the lead-up to the global event. In an ambitious move, Yoga will be practiced simultaneously at over 1 lakh locations across the country, involving millions of participants from all walks of life.
The main national event will take place in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, from 6:30 to 7:45 am, with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. PM Modi, who has played a significant role in popularizing Yoga internationally, is expected to address the nation and lead the Yoga session, emphasizing the role of Yoga in building a healthy and sustainable future.
State-Level Celebrations in Goa: Yoga Sangam
Among the state-level events, Goa is making headlines with its signature celebration titled “Yoga Sangam”, organized by the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, at the Pedem Sports Complex in Mhapussa. The event promises a rich display of community involvement and institutional collaboration.
A large number of school and college students, government officials, and local residents from Pedem and Mhapussa will participate in the Yoga sessions. The event aims to bring together diverse sections of society in a collective experience of mindfulness and physical well-being.
Innovative Campaigns Led by AIIA Goa
As per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of AYUSH, several initiatives have been rolled out across India to elevate the Yoga Day celebrations beyond mere symbolism. Notably, AIIA Goa has taken a proactive approach by organizing a series of programmes, including the unique “Harita Yoga” sessions.
These special sessions were conducted at heritage sites, tourist destinations, ancient temples, and historical forts throughout the state, blending culture, spirituality, and wellness. Over 200 students participated in these experiential Yoga drives, reflecting enthusiastic public participation.
In addition to the Harita Yoga campaign, AIIA Goa also organized medical camps, Yoga workshops, and quiz competitions aimed at raising awareness about the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of Yoga.
Visionary Leadership and Coordination
The success of these initiatives owes much to the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam, Dean, and Prof. Dr. Mohan Joshi, Associate Dean of AIIA Goa. Under their guidance, the institution has emerged as a vibrant hub of integrative healthcare education and wellness promotion.
Their efforts have not only enhanced public engagement but also highlighted Goa’s significant contribution to India’s broader mission of health and wellness through Yoga.
A National and Global Movement
Launched as a UN resolution in 2014 and championed by Prime Minister Modi, International Yoga Day has evolved into a worldwide movement. Today, it is celebrated in more than 190 countries, with Yoga sessions held in embassies, public parks, and community spaces across the globe.
This year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” underscores the interconnectedness of human health, planetary sustainability, and universal harmony—a timely message in the wake of global health and environmental challenges.
As the sun rises on 21st June, from Visakhapatnam to Mhapussa and beyond, millions will roll out their Yoga mats in a synchronised tribute to India’s gift to the world. The 11th International Yoga Day promises not only to celebrate this ancient practice but to inspire a renewed global commitment to well-being, harmony, and collective consciousness.
