NCC Expansion: Rajnath Singh Greenlights Three Lakh Cadet Vacancies

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has given the green light to a significant proposal for the expansion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), which entails the addition of three lakh cadet vacancies. This expansion is aimed at meeting the rising demand for NCC enrollment from educational institutions across the country.

Since its inception with just 20,000 cadets in 1948, the NCC is now set to witness a substantial increase, reaching a sanctioned strength of 20 lakh cadets, thus becoming the largest uniformed youth organization globally. With NCC being offered as an elective subject under the National Education Policy 2020, this expansion aligns with the aspirations of youth eager to play pivotal roles as future leaders of the nation.

The expansion plan is poised to have far-reaching implications, ensuring a proportional distribution of vacancies across all States and Union Territories while simultaneously reducing the waiting list of institutions aspiring for NCC affiliation. Furthermore, the plan involves the establishment of four new Group Headquarters and the addition of two new NCC units.

A notable aspect of the expansion strategy is the proposal to employ ex-servicemen as NCC instructors, thereby capitalizing on their expertise and extensive experience. This noble initiative not only guarantees quality training for NCC cadets but also generates employment opportunities for veterans.

This expansion underscores a commitment to nurturing future leaders who epitomize discipline, leadership, and service. The NCC endeavors to make a transformative impact, fostering an environment where youth actively contribute to nation-building endeavors. This initiative aims to broaden the base of motivated, disciplined, and patriotic youth of the ‘Amrit Peedhi’, who will significantly contribute to realizing the vision of a developed India (‘Viksit Bharat’).
