NHPC Limited Wins Bid to Develop 200 MW Solar Power Project in Gujarat

NHPC Limited, India’s leading hydropower company and a central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power has secured a significant bid to develop a 200 MW capacity Solar Power Project. This project is set to be established within the 1,125 MW RE Park of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (GSECL) at Khavda in the Kachchh district of Gujarat.

The endeavor is poised to make a substantial impact on the energy landscape, with an estimated generation of approximately 473 million units of electricity in its inaugural year post-commissioning. Over 25 years, the cumulative energy output from this project is projected to reach about 10,850 million units.

Operational on a build-own-and-operate basis, NHPC is expected to undertake the development of this project with a tentative investment of Rs. 847 crores. The efficient execution of this initiative is anticipated to bolster Gujarat’s renewable energy portfolio significantly.

The competitive e-reverse auction for this project was conducted by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited on March 2, 2024. Subsequently, the issuance of the Letter of Intent by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited on March 14, 2024, underscores NHPC’s successful bid.

Notably, NHPC clinched this project at a tariff of Rs. 2.66 per unit, reaffirming its commitment to delivering sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions. The timeline for completion of this ambitious project is set at 18 months, promising swift progress toward meeting renewable energy targets and enhancing energy security in the region.
