In 2016, Javadekar was given the additional charge of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. In 2017, Javadekar was appointed as the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, where he played a key role in the implementation of policies related to the Indian broadcasting sector. He also played a key role in the launch of the Prasar Bharati Digital Terrestrial Transmission (DTT) service.

In 2019, Javadekar was appointed as the Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, where he continued to work on policies related to the environment and wildlife conservation.
