Poonamben Maadam Yadav was born on September 23, 1974, and is a prominent political figure from the state of Gujarat, India. She currently represents the Jamnagar constituency in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of India’s Parliament. Her political journey has been marked by dedication & service to her constituents.
Family Background: Poonamben Maadam Yadav is the daughter of Dinaben and Hematbhai Maadam. Yadav holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Gujarat University. Her family has a rich political legacy, with her father serving as an independent MLA for four consecutive terms from 1972 to 1990 in Jamkhambhaliya. Her grandfather, Rambhai Maadam, was actively involved in community work, particularly in the Ahir/Yadav community and education. Notably, her uncle, Vikram Maadam, is also a Congress MLA in Jam Khambhaliya.
Tragically, the family experienced a profound loss when their daughter, Shivani, passed away in Singapore on December 9, 2018, due to burn injuries suffered in Noida.
Political Career: Poonamben Maadam Yadav’s political journey began with the Congress party, but she later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She served as a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2012 to 2014. In 2014, she contested the Lok Sabha elections from Jamnagar as a BJP candidate and emerged victorious, defeating her uncle Vikram Maadam of the Congress. She secured a total of 484,412 votes and won with a substantial margin of 175,289 votes. Her electoral success continued in 2019 when she was re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha with an even larger margin, receiving 5,91,588 votes.
Throughout her political career, Poonamben Maadam Yadav has actively contributed to parliamentary committees, including the Committee on Empowerment of Women, the Standing Committee on Industry, the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Committee on Public Undertakings, the Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee, and the Institute Body of AIIMS-Rajkot.
She is also a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and has been instrumental in shaping policies as a young woman parliamentarian.
In Media: Poonamben Maadam Yadav’s dedication to her constituents was evident when she was injured during her visit to the Jalaramnagar area of Jamnagar city to stop a demolition drive in May 2017.
She also made headlines in April 2015 during a ‘Bhagwat Katha’ program organized in Gujarat’s Veraval to raise funds for welfare initiatives in the area, where a substantial amount of Rs 3 crore was raised.
