Ajay Singh Deol, popularly known as Sunny Deol, was born on the 19th of October in 1956. With an illustrious career spanning over four decades, he has earned recognition not only for his acting prowess but also for his contributions to Indian cinema. As the elder son of the legendary actor Dharmendra, Sunny Deol made his remarkable acting debut opposite newcomer Amrita Singh in the romantic drama “Betaab” (1983), which became a commercial success.
Sunny Deol’s journey in the Indian film industry has been marked by a plethora of successful films and an enduring image as an ‘angry action hero.’ He has appeared in over 90 Hindi films, showcasing his versatility as an actor. Notably, he has been honored with two National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards for his exceptional contributions to Indian cinema.
Throughout his career, Sunny Deol delivered some of the most memorable performances in films such as “Ghayal” (1990), “Damini” (1993), “Border” (1997), and “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha” (2001), with the latter becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films at that time.
While his acting career had experienced some fluctuations, Sunny Deol made a remarkable comeback by reprising his iconic role in “Gadar 2” (2023), which turned out to be the highest-grossing film of his career and one of the top-grossing Hindi films of all time.
In addition to his contributions to the world of cinema, Sunny Deol also serves as a Member of Parliament for Gurdaspur, Punjab, effectively combining his artistry with a role in public service.
Born as Ajay Singh Deol in the village of Sahnewal in East Punjab, Sunny Deol hails from a Punjabi Jat family, with his father being the iconic Bollywood actor Dharmendra and his mother, Prakash Kaur. He has siblings, including his younger brother, Bobby Deol, and two sisters, Vijayta and Ajeeta, residing in California, USA. The esteemed actress Hema Malini is his stepmother, and he shares a familial connection with Abhay Deol, a well-known actor in the industry.
