The National Zoological Park (NZP), New Delhi, successfully concluded its seven-day celebration of Global Tiger Day today, marking a week filled with education, interaction, and inspiration. Held from 29th July to 4th August 2025, the event aimed to spread awareness about tiger conservation and the broader message of environmental stewardship among young minds.

Over the week, 1,935 students and 175 teachers from 27 Delhi-NCR schools enthusiastically took part in a range of engaging activities focused on conservation education.

The final day witnessed an enthusiastic crowd of 400+ students and teachers attending a special exhibition on Big Cats organized by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). The exhibit, rich in visuals and information, spotlighted India’s iconic big cats—including tigers, leopards, Asiatic lions, and snow leopards—emphasizing their importance in our ecosystem and the need for urgent conservation efforts.

Students took a pledge to ‘Save Tigers and Elephants‘, followed by the screening of an educational documentary on big cats. The day also included a guided tour of the zoo with interactive sessions by zoo staff on animal behavior, habitat requirements, and conservation efforts for endangered species.

Adding a creative touch, students participated in a clay modeling competition, where they showcased their understanding of wildlife through art. Winners were awarded prizes by the Zoo Director, encouraging continued involvement in conservation.

A special session on Plastic Management was conducted by representatives from Bisleri, raising awareness about plastic pollution’s effects on wildlife and promoting eco-friendly alternatives through individual action.

In alignment with the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, each participating school received 10 saplings to plant in honor of mothers, symbolizing a deep emotional and ecological connection with nature.

In a heartening development, the Zoo also welcomed six tiger cubs during the week-long event. The cubs, born to wild-origin tigress Aditi and male Vijay Junior, are healthy and bonding with their mother in the tiger house under close veterinary care. The zoo now houses 19 tigers, including Royal Bengal and White Tigers. While the cubs are not yet on public display, behind-the-scenes footage will be shared online soon.

The celebrations at NZP highlighted not only the importance of tiger conservation but also instilled a sense of collective environmental responsibility in young learners—ensuring the message of wildlife protection continues to grow.
