Nanaji Deshmukh, also known as Chandikadas Amritrao Deshmukh, was a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the betterment of rural India. He was a social activist, a politician, and a thinker who worked tirelessly to uplift the lives of the rural poor. Born on 11 October 1916 in Hingoli, Maharashtra, he was a true patriot who believed in the principles of non-violence, democracy, and self-reliance.

Nanaji Deshmukh started his career as a teacher, but his passion for social work led him to leave his job and devote his life to social service. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1940 and worked closely with its founder, Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. He became the general secretary of the RSS in 1948 and played a key role in its growth and expansion. He also established several social service organizations, including the Deendayal Research Institute, which is dedicated to promoting rural development.

One of Nanaji Deshmukh’s most significant contributions was in the field of rural development. He believed that India’s future lay in its villages and worked tirelessly to empower the rural poor. He advocated a model of development that was based on self-reliance, cooperation, and community participation. He promoted the concept of “Gram Swaraj,” which emphasized the need for self-governance at the village level.

Nanaji Deshmukh was a firm believer in the power of education to transform society. He established several schools and colleges in rural areas, including the Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya, which is dedicated to providing higher education to students from rural areas. He believed that education was the key to empowering people and creating a just and equitable society.
