On the 2nd of March Piyush Goyal, the Minister of Commerce, and Industry of India, recently emphasized the importance of “Speed + Scale + Sustainability” in solving the world’s problems.
Goyal emphasized the need for speed in solving problems, stating that “If we don’t move fast, we will be left behind.” He cited examples such as India’s rapid electrification of villages and the launch of the world’s largest LED bulb distribution program as evidence of the country’s commitment to speed in addressing social and environmental issues.
In addition to speed, Goyal also stressed the importance of scale. He believes that solutions must be scaled up to make a real impact. He cited the success of the Ujjwala Yojana, a program launched by the Indian government to provide free LPG connections to households below the poverty line, as an example of how scaling up initiatives can be effective in solving problems.
However, Goyal also emphasized that solutions must be sustainable in the long run. He acknowledged that many problems facing the world today, such as climate change and inequality, cannot be solved overnight. Therefore, solutions must be sustainable and have a long-term impact. He cited India’s ambitious renewable energy targets and the country’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions as examples of sustainability in action.
Goyal’s emphasis on “Speed + Scale + Sustainability” is particularly relevant in today’s world, where the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the urgent need for rapid and effective solutions to global problems. From healthcare to education to climate change, the world is facing unprecedented challenges that require innovative and sustainable solutions.
Piyush Goyal’s emphasis on “Speed + Scale + Sustainability” is a timely reminder of the need for urgency, effectiveness, and long-term impact in solving the world’s problems. It is a call to action for governments, businesses, and individuals to work together toward a sustainable and equitable future.
