Ahead of the 20th installment release of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme on August 2, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chaired a high-level review meeting. The upcoming event, to be led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Varanasi, is focused on ensuring maximum farmer outreach nationwide.

The session saw virtual participation from Directors, Vice Chancellors, and heads of 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), along with senior officials from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and agricultural universities. The Minister directed officials to mobilise efforts from national to village levels, urging KVKs to organise the event as both a mission and a festival, celebrating the empowerment of farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Emphasising the structured delivery of ₹6,000 annually in three installments, Shri Chouhan reiterated the importance of early preparation and farmer awareness. He encouraged the use of grassroots-level workers—such as Krishi Sakhis, Drone Didis, and Gram Panchayat Sarpanches—for effective dissemination of information and engagement with farmers, particularly around Kharif crop discussions.

Since its launch in 2019, the PM-Kisan scheme has directly transferred ₹3.69 lakh crore to farmers’ accounts. The forthcoming 20th installment will disburse ₹20,500 crore to 9.7 crore beneficiaries. Agriculture Secretary Shri Devesh Chaturvedi, ICAR Director General Dr. M.L. Jat, and other senior officials attended the review meeting, reaffirming the government’s focus on inclusive and transparent farmer support.
