On the auspicious occasion of releasing the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed a large gathering of farmers, officials, and dignitaries in Patna, Bihar. Held during the holy month of Sawan, the event saw the presence of Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Sinha, Cooperative Minister Prem Kumar, and other notable leaders.
In his spirited address, Shri Chouhan lauded the contributions of farmers, especially the women present in large numbers, calling them the soul of Indian agriculture. He emphasized that agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy, and serving farmers is a sacred responsibility.
Reflecting on Bihar’s rich cultural and agricultural legacy, he paid homage to its historical significance, from the blessings of Maa Ganga to the legacy of Lord Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha. He highlighted the industrious spirit and global appreciation of Bihar’s farming community.
A key highlight of the event was the transfer of over ₹20,000 crore directly into the bank accounts of farmers across India, raising the total disbursement under PM-KISAN to ₹3.77 lakh crore. This was made possible through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring full transparency and eliminating any leakages.
Shri Chouhan emphasized the importance of schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Yojana to boost per hectare productivity, particularly in low-yield regions. He praised Bihar’s Makhana production as a model of agricultural excellence and underlined the government’s efforts to integrate agricultural science with field practices.
Addressing logistical needs, he assured the timely availability of fertilizers and pesticides, support through crop failure compensation schemes, and procurement at Minimum Support Prices (MSP) with a 50% profit margin over production costs.
Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to farmer welfare, Chouhan concluded that the government’s top priority remains empowering India’s farmers. The event ended with a collective pledge to strengthen India’s agricultural foundation and ensure dignified livelihoods for every farmer.
