On the 3rd of January PM Modi Addresses 108th Indian Science Congress on the theme “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment.”

Today, the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, addressed the 108th Indian Science Congress via video conferencing. The 2023 ISC’s theme is “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment.”. Discussions on issues of sustainable development, women empowerment, and the role of science & technology in achieving this will take place at the conference.

PM spotlighted the role of India’s scientific strength in India’s story of advancement over the next 25 years while addressing the gathering. “When Science is joined with a passion for national service, the outcomes are praiseworthy.” PM said, “I am sure India’s scientific community will ensure a place for our country of which it was always deserving.”

Friends,

PM mentioned the importance of gathering data and analyzing results, pointing out that observation is the root of science and that it is by the such observation that scientists follow patterns and arrive at required results. “India has the potential to take Indian Science to new heights,” he said, highlighting the abundant availability of data and technology in 21st-century India.

He also said that the field of data analysis is moving very quickly, which is helpful in converting information into insights and analysis into knowledge that can be used to take action.

“Both traditional knowledge and modern technology play essential roles in scientific finding,” the PM remarked. He also said that it was important to make the scientific processes stronger by using different research-based development techniques.

Friends,

PM said that India’s move to 40th place in the Global Innovation Index in 2022 from 81st place in 2015 is speaking about the result of India’s tryst with the scientific approach and that India is being counted among the top countries of the world. The number of PhDs and startup ecosystems make India one of the top three nations in the world.

PM emphasized the complementarity between sustainable development and women empowerment, expressing happiness about the theme of the Science Congress this year which combines the two areas. He stressed that we should not only empower women via science but also empower science through the contribution of women.

Friends,

Today, there are immense possibilities for scientific research in the waste management sector as well. Municipal solid waste, electronic waste, bio-medical waste, and agricultural waste are such areas, which are continuously expanding. That’s why in last year’s budget, the government laid a lot of emphasis on the circular economy.

Now we have to further strengthen the Mission Circular Economy. For this, we have to work on such innovations, which can make better use of metal and plastic scrap. We have to work together on reducing pollution and making scrap useful.

Today India is also touching new heights in the space sector. Due to low-cost satellite launch vehicles, our capacity will increase and the world will come forward to take our services. Private companies and startups can take advantage of these opportunities. Startups can find a way forward by associating with R&D labs and academic institutions.

One such topic is Quantum computing. Today India is making its mark in the world as a quantum frontier. India is moving fast in the direction of quantum computers, quantum chemistry, quantum communication, quantum sensors, quantum cryptography, and new materials. I would like our young researchers and scientists to gain expertise in the field of quantum and become leaders in this field.
