On the 12th of January PM Modi Addresses the inaugural session of the “Voice of Global South Summit”.

Modi said, “Leaders of the global South, Namaskar! I am delighted to welcome you to this Summit. Thanks for joining us from various parts of the world. We are meeting as the new year dawns, and it brings new hopes and new energy. I and all 1.3 billion Indians wish you and your countries a happy and fulfilling 2023”.

He said We have to become the page on another difficult year which saw: wars, conflicts, terrorism, and geopolitical tensions: rising food, fertilizer, and fuel prices; Climate-Change driven natural disasters and the lasting economic impact of the COVID pandemic. The world is facing a clear crisis. The instability is unpredictable in terms of how long it will last.

Excellencies,

“We in the Global South have the most to lose in the future. Our countries house three-fourths of humanity. We should also have an equivalent voice. As the model of global governance changes, we should try to shape the emerging order”.

Modi said, “The Global South has not created all of the global challenges. They affect us more, but we don’t realize it. We have seen the effects of the COVID pandemic, climate change, terrorism, and even the Ukraine conflict. Our role and voice are not taken into account when searching for solutions”.

Excellencies,

“India has always been willing to share its developmental experience with other countries. Our development partnerships are global and cover a range of sectors. We supplied over 100 countries with medicines and vaccines during the pandemic. Developing countries should have a greater role in determining our common future, and India has always stood for that”.
