Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to extend heartfelt congratulations to Dra. Claudia Sheinbaum on her historic election as Mexico’s first woman President. He hailed the momentous occasion as a tribute to the remarkable leadership of President Andrés Manuel and a significant milestone for the people of Mexico.
“This is a momentous occasion for the people of Mexico and a tribute to the great leadership of President Andrés Manuel as well,” PM Modi expressed.
Amidst celebrations in Mexico City’s main square, crowds of flag-waving supporters rejoiced to mariachi music, marking the landslide victory of the ruling party candidate. Claudia Sheinbaum’s victory speech resonated with promises of gratitude and determination.
“I want to thank millions of Mexican women and men who decided to vote for us on this historic day,” Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the cheering crowd. “I won’t fail you,” she vowed.
Acknowledging her main opposition rival Xochitl Galvez and her concession, Sheinbaum’s victory, with around 58-60 percent of votes according to preliminary results, signifies a significant margin ahead of her competitors.
Despite challenges of electoral violence and unrest, voters across Mexico turned out in large numbers, reflecting their commitment to democracy. The deployment of thousands of troops aimed to ensure the safety of voters, amidst concerns over violence perpetrated by drug cartels.
Claudia Sheinbaum’s election, as a scientist and former Mexico City mayor, embodies hope and progress for the nation. Her victory resonates globally, representing a triumph over gender-based barriers and a testament to the resilience of democracy.
