Since 2000, the state’s special DGP has shared figures for rhino poaching. He said that the highest number of poaching incidents was in 2013 and 2014, with 27 incidents each year.. The number of rhinos killed by poachers was 17 in 2015, 18 in 2016, two in 2020, 2021, and zero in 2022.
The poaching of rhinos was rampant in the past, but it has now come down due to the stringent surveillance and other elevated security arrangements being put in by the authorities. The state of Assam is known for its one-horned rhinos and attracts a large number of tourists who come to visit such sites.
A rhino, commonly abbreviated to the rhino, is a member of any of the five extant species (or numerous extinct species) of odd-toed ungulates in the family Rhinocerotidae. It can refer to a member of any of the extinct species of the superfamily Rhinocerotoidea. There are two extant species native to Africa and three to South and Southeast Asia.
