Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a significant day for connectivity and development in Northeast India by flagging off Assam’s first Vande Bharat Express, inaugurating electrified railway tracks, and a new DEMU/MEMU shed. These infrastructure projects aim to enhance connectivity, create job opportunities, and boost tourism in the region.
Vande Bharat Express Inauguration and Connectivity:
The inauguration of Assam’s first Vande Bharat Express holds great importance for the region. The train’s route between Guwahati & New Jalpaiguri will strengthen the historical ties B\W Assam & West Bengal. The improved connectivity will facilitate easier travel, benefit students, and contribute to the growth of tourism and business in the area. The Vande Bharat Express also provides access to popular destinations like the Maa Kamakhya Temple, Kaziranga, Manas National Park, and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. The inauguration is anticipated to enhance travel and tourism in popular destinations such as Shillong and Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, as well as Tawang and Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.
Inauguration of Electrified Tracks and DEMU/MEMU Shed:
Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated 182 route kilometers of newly electrified railway tracks in Assam and Meghalaya. This initiative will enhance the efficiency and sustainability of rail transport in the region. Additionally, the new DEMU/MEMU shed at Lumding in Assam will contribute to the maintenance and operation of diesel and electric multiple-unit trains, further improving rail connectivity.
PM Modi’s Focus on Development and Welfare:
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to development and welfare in Northeast India. He highlighted the significant achievements of the NDA government, such as the construction of the impressive Parliament House and the focus on the welfare of the poor. The prime minister highlighted various initiatives, including the provision of houses, toilets, tap water connections, electricity, and gas pipelines, and the development of AIIMS and infrastructure for roads, railways, airways, waterways, ports, and mobile connectivity. PM Modi stressed that infrastructure development plays a crucial role in improving lives, creating employment opportunities, and fostering development.
Focus on Northeast Development:
Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the historically limited access to basic facilities faced by the people of Northeast India. However, he highlighted the government’s focus on improving rail connectivity in the region and connecting capital cities with a broad gauge network. The prime minister noted the significant increase in the railways budget for the Northeast, enabling infrastructure projects and development initiatives. The pace of development in the region, including new rail lines and doubling of rail lines, has been accelerated, leading to improved connectivity and benefits for the local population.
