PM Modi Sends Warm Gudi Padwa Wishes to All

Estimated reading time: 1 minute

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveys warm wishes to all on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, heralding the start of the lunisolar new year for Hindus, especially those of Marathi and Konkani descent. This vibrant spring festival celebrated at the onset of Chaitra, the first month of the Hindu calendar, is characterized by colorful rangoli decorations and the raising of the iconic gudi dvaja.

In Maharashtra, Gudi Padwa is observed as the first day of the bright phase of the moon, known locally as gudhi paadwaa. Konkani Hindus refer to it as sausāra pāḍavo or sausāra pāḍyo, while in Karnataka, it is called yugādi. Sindhi people commemorate the day as Cheti Chand, offering prayers to Jhulelal and enjoying traditional delicacies.

Although Gudi Padwa is significant for many Hindus, it is not the universal new year for all. Some communities, like those near Gujarat, celebrate the new year during Diwali, while others observe it during Vaisakhi in mid-April.

As PM Modi extends his greetings, he embraces the cultural richness and diversity embodied in Gudi Padwa, wishing prosperity and joy for all celebrating this auspicious occasion.
