Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reflected on the significant strides India has made in the defence sector over the past 11 years, highlighting a consistent focus on modernisation, indigenisation, and self-reliance. Marking the occasion through a post on social media platform X, he celebrated the nation’s united commitment to strengthening its defence capabilities.
In response to a post by MyGovIndia, the Prime Minister wrote:
“Over the past 11 years, our defence sector has undergone remarkable transformation, with a strong emphasis on modernisation and self-reliance in defence production. It’s heartening to witness the united spirit of the people of India, all working together to build a stronger, more secure nation. #11YearsOfRakshaShakti”
The Prime Minister’s message underscored how India has transformed its defence landscape through an integrated approach that merges policy reforms, domestic manufacturing, advanced technologies, and robust military preparedness. The emphasis on self-reliance, reflected in the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, has led to a substantial reduction in dependence on foreign imports, with a growing number of indigenous platforms and systems being developed by Indian defence industries.
Over the last decade, the government has taken major steps to boost local defence production. This includes the establishment of Defence Industrial Corridors, liberalising FDI in defence, creating a positive indigenisation list banning import of certain arms and equipment, and launching initiatives such as Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) to harness start-up innovation.
Prime Minister Modi also stressed the role of the Indian people in this journey. From scientists and engineers in DRDO and ISRO to private-sector players and armed forces personnel, the collective resolve has played a pivotal role in turning India into a nation capable of designing and producing cutting-edge military technology.
From homegrown fighter jets like Tejas and missile systems like Akash, to advancements in naval capabilities and cybersecurity, India’s focus on comprehensive and sustainable defence growth has gained global attention.
The hashtag #11YearsOfRakshaShakti trending across digital platforms symbolizes not only the accomplishments of the past decade but also the nation’s commitment to a secure, sovereign, and self-reliant future.
