Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 184 newly built Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Delhi, today. Coming just days after the opening of the Common Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhavan, he described it as a privilege to unveil this modern residential complex aimed at enhancing MPs’ living conditions while ensuring savings of public funds.

The four towers—Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly—are named after India’s great rivers, symbolizing unity. Shri Modi praised the engineers and shramjeevis for their dedication, noting that MPs will now be free from the challenges of deteriorated housing, enabling them to focus more on public service.

Addressing the housing shortage for MPs, especially newcomers, the Prime Minister highlighted that not a single unit was built for Lok Sabha MPs between 2004 and 2014. Since 2014, approximately 350 MP residences, including these flats, have been constructed. He underlined the economic benefit, citing savings similar to those achieved by ending the ₹1,500 crore annual rent for ministries through Kartavya Bhavan.

Constructed using green technology, the complex meets GRIHA 3-star rating standards, is earthquake-resistant, and designed to be Divyang-friendly. It incorporates solar-powered infrastructure, modern construction techniques, and efficient waste management systems. Each flat, offering around 5,000 sq. ft. of carpet area, provides dedicated spaces for official work, staff accommodation, and community gatherings.

The Prime Minister urged MPs to foster cultural exchange by celebrating regional festivals, promoting linguistic harmony, and maintaining cleanliness. He proposed Swacchata competitions among MP complexes and encouraged the premises to embody the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.

The event also featured the Prime Minister planting a Sindoor sapling and interacting with the shramjeevis. It was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers, and Members of Parliament, marking a significant milestone in delivering sustainable and inclusive housing for the nation’s elected representatives.
