PM Modi Meets Bhutan’s King, Affirms Strong India-Bhutan Friendship

Bhutan’s King: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had a significant meeting with His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, in Thimphu. The Prime Minister expressed heartfelt thanks to His Majesty for the remarkable public welcome extended to him, with people lining the route from Paro to Thimphu.

During the meeting, both leaders expressed profound satisfaction at the enduring and unique friendship between India and Bhutan. Prime Minister Modi conveyed appreciation for the visionary leadership provided by successive Druk Gyalpos in nurturing the close ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

The discussions between Prime Minister Modi and His Majesty focused on reviewing the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation. They reaffirmed the enduring principle of “Bharat for Bhutan and Bhutan for Bharat,” reflecting the deep-rooted ties between the two nations. The leaders explored avenues to further strengthen the transformative partnership, particularly in areas such as energy, development cooperation, youth engagement, education, entrepreneurship, and skill development. Additionally, they discussed progress in connectivity initiatives and investment proposals, including the Gelephu Mindfulness City project.

The meeting underscored the exceptional bond of friendship and cooperation that exists between India and Bhutan, characterized by mutual trust and understanding. It highlighted the commitment of both nations to further enhancing bilateral relations for the mutual benefit and prosperity of their peoples.
